PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired two times late to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the final seconds to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past thirteen seasons.
